Jira Service Management integration for Dimension Labs

This brings in each Jira Service Management request as one conversation: the customer's original request and every public comment on it, from the customer and from your agents. Internal comments stay out. You run it on your side: a small script pulls from the Jira Cloud REST APIs and posts each message to the universal API.

[01] What comes acrossFrom Jira Service Management into one format

Every Jira Service Management message, in the same shape as everything else.

Each record lands in the Dimension Labs conversation format, so Dimensions, reports and the agent work the same way as for every other source.

Jira Service ManagementDimension Labs
summary and description for the first message; comment body after that text

Only comments returned with public=true&internal=false. Internal comments are never requested.

issue reporter.accountId userId

Atlassian's account id for the customer, on every message of the request. Account ids can contain a colon: the code replaces it with -.

comment author.accountId is the reporter or a participant incoming

The request itself is incoming. Comments from anyone else (your agents) are outgoing.

issue key sessionId

Prefix it, for example jsm-HELP-123.

issue key conversationId

Same value as sessionId.

issue created; comment created.epochMillis dimensionlabs_timestamp

Convert with toMillis. epochMillis is already in milliseconds.

status, priority, issuetype, labels, project key platformJson

Add a request type or other custom field if you report on it.

[02] How to connect Jira Service ManagementUniversal API

5 steps. Then it runs on its own.

A small job on your side reads Jira Service Management through its API and posts each message to the Dimension Labs universal API. The guide gives the steps, the field mapping and the code. Run the job once for history, then every 15 minutes. A live source is enriched automatically every day; history is enriched with a backfill.

Rate limits, per Atlassian: API token traffic is governed by burst (per-second) limits. Going over returns 429 with a Retry-After header in seconds (rate limiting).

What you need

  • A Jira Cloud site with one or more service projects, and their project keys (for example HELP).
  • An Atlassian account with agent access to those projects. The script sees only what this account can see: Jira needs the Browse projects permission to return an issue, and permission to view the request to return its comments.
  • An API token for that account.
  • A Dimension Labs API key for a new Universal API source.

[03] What you can ask

Questions teams answer with Jira Service Management data.

  • Which ticket themes come before a cancellation?
  • What drives repeat contacts this month?
  • Which issues take the most agent time, by reason?
